About me

My journey into journalism has been anything but traditional. As a first-generation American, I have experienced many firsts, including being the first in my family to graduate from high school and attend college. I am the daughter of Mexican immigrants who came to this country in search of a better life. They settled in Riverside, California, where I was born and raised.

Navigating a new culture and system on my own was not easy. My parents only spoke Spanish, and I didn’t learn English until halfway through elementary school. I had no connections, no mentors, and I had to figure everything out on my own. I know how difficult and overwhelming it is to navigate those systems without guidance. These experiences continue to shape my work and inspire me to help others in similar positions by explaining how things work. I found that journalism is a powerful way to do this.

Like my parents, I wanted a better life for myself. I began at a local city college and joined Viewpoints, a student newspaper, where I discovered my passion for journalism. I later transferred to San Francisco State University, where I interned at the San Francisco Public Press during my final semester. I graduated in 2020, just as the pandemic began.

Since then, I have worked as a reporter for KTVO in Iowa and for KBAK/KBFX Eyewitness News in Bakersfield, California. My work has covered a wide range of topics, from politics to crime. What drives my reporting is the belief that even the most complex issues can be told in a way that is clear, accessible, and meaningful to everyday people.

When I'm not reporting, you can find me weightlifting, taking Pilates or yoga classes, and exploring new coffee shops. I love traveling to new places, whether it's spending time in nature or enjoying a good cityscape.

Feel free to reach out, I’d love to connect!
